토플 Reading 영역에 출제되는 어휘문제는 한 지문(12~14문제) 중에 평균 2~4 문제 정도 출제되고 Reading 전체에서 20%~30% 사이로 출제되고 있다. 그리고 어휘문제 이외에도 Reading 영역에서 독해 자체를 위해 필요한 어휘 및 Listening, Speaking, Writing 등을 위해서도 어휘는 토플에서 굉장히 중요한 부분이다.

IBT 시험에서는 이전 CBT시험에서보다 지문 길이가 길어졌고 독해 난이도는 비슷하거나 약간 어려운 수준이다.
그리고 IBT 토플 어휘문제는 CBT 시험에서 출제되었던 어휘들이 계속해서 출제되고 있고 CBT시험보다 약간 더 어려운 어휘도 출제되고 있다.
